Sega Forever Complete List: Genesis, Sonic & Other iOS, Android Games For Free
A few days ago, Sega announced that it will be releasing its entire library for free with the Sega Forever campaign. Of course, for nostalgia and retro lovers, this is one big deal.
At the moment, Sega is only releasing five titles for Sega Forever. There will be more game titles to be released after that; to be done in a monthly basis. Looking back, this maybe one of the biggest retro game release to ever come to the gaming community. That said, let us take a look at exactly how vast the throve of retro games Sega has to offer.
For starters, you have the SG series with the SG-1000 and the SG-1000 Mark 2. After that, you have the Master System and the hugely popular Genesis. For portables, you have the Sega Game Gear.
Other less known Sega systems include the Sega CD, Sega Pico, and the 32X. And then finally, to the big players, the Sega Saturn and the Dreamcast.
Although Sega has dropped off the console race for more than 20 years now, it still owns a number of exclusive game titles that are quite good.
First few offerings
For the first month of release, Sega Forever will have five game titles around its belt. This time, all the games will be coming from the Genesis console collection which will include the following: Sonic the Hedgehog, Comix Zone, Altered Beast, Kid Chameleon, and Phantasy Star II.
More games to come
That is all and good. But as promised, there are more games to come. On the Sega SG-1000 and SG-100 Mark 2 alone, gamers can expect more than 60 games titles including Flicky, Congo Bongo, and Sega-Galaga.
For something a bit bigger, there’s the Sega Master System. And you would be sure to think why it is called that as the console has around 340 games under its name. While it is just too long to list them here, games like Action Fighter, After Burner, and Double Dragon are just a few of them.
Everyone knows about the Sega Genesis. And who would not? For one, it has one of the biggest game libraries in all of the Sega console. During its entire life, Sega released nearly 900 games for the Genesis console. Secondly, from this list, comes all the five titles that are being offered for free this month. And there’s more where they came from.
Gamers can expect titles like Animaniacs, Blackout, Contra: Hard Cops, and more.
How does it all work?
The Sega Forever app is available for free on both Android and iOS. As stated by Sega, the games come free as well. Initially, Sega will be releasing five titles for the Sega Forever. After that, there will be more games every month.
Sega Genesis console
As with the app, the games come for free as well. The only thing is, users would need to deal with popups from third-party advertisers. But if you do not want that annoyance, you can always opt to pay $1.99. Unfortunately, it is not clear yet if this works on a per game basis or one-time payment. Nevertheless, paying for a game for $1.99 is relatively cheap considering you are playing everything on-the-go.
For now, all Sega is doing is making sure it can keep up with he demands. For this, the company has setup a community to ask users what game titles they want on the Sega Forever app. Once the titles have been established, Sega will then proceed with the emulation part of the game.
Sega Forever is perhaps one of the best things to have come to retro gamers. For year, many of these retro gamers have battled with trademark infringements and emulation issues. Now, they can all sit back and enjoy the games they loved from the bygone era.
