Dota 2 team want to focus on new hero development and user experience
Valve has always been famous for ‘Valve Time’, the glacial pace at which the company behind Steam and countless games actually release things.
The company are famous for it, but the development team behind Dota 2 have made it clear that they want to get past the image and increase the speed at which they announce new heroes and improve the user experience of their client.
The news comes via tweets from Matthew ‘Cyborgmatt’ Bailey, the director of operations for Team Secret.

Bailey claims that the statements about faster hero development, which Valve say hasn’t “gone as quickly” as they would like, and comments about the game’s UX came during a meeting where Valve unveiled the calendar of major and minor tournaments for the year, where Valve also noted thta they were happy with where the meta was at.
We’re already seeing hints of the improvements to user interface with the hinted at Hero Guide system, which is undergoing a rework.
Monkey King was the last released hero, released in December 2016. His release makes him the first hero released for Dota 2 that wasn’t first released on Dota Allstars. This means we’re in a bold new place for Valve, who can strike out in a new direction. So far however, they haven’t shown anything off.
Still, with The International 2017 underway, will Valve stick with tradition and have a showmatch featuring a new hero to round off the show?
